Groundwork is a desktop application. Your financial data — transactions, balances, budgets, debt information — is stored in a SQLite database on your computer. We have no access to it. It never leaves your machine unless you explicitly export it.
If you sign up for email updates on this website, we store your email address and name to send you product updates. We use SendGrid to deliver emails. We never sell or share your email address. You can unsubscribe at any time by emailing hello@groundworkfinance.app.
Groundwork's AI features are optional and run locally by default: the app uses a language model on your own machine (via Ollama), so nothing leaves your computer and no API key is needed. If you choose to switch to cloud mode, Groundwork sends aggregated financial data (income totals, spending totals, category summaries) to Anthropic's API only when you explicitly generate a report — no account numbers, transaction descriptions, or personally identifying information is ever included. Cloud mode requires your own Anthropic API key and is entirely opt-in.
